Donald Trump says he convinced UK to ban Huawei from 5G network

US president Donald Trump said his administration had convinced “many countries”, including Britain, to not use China’s Huawei for their 5G network.

Boris Johnson announced the Huawei ban earlier on Tuesday, frustrating Beijing but pleasing Washington, which had pushed Britain to reverse a January decision to grant Huawei a limited role in its 5G rollout.

On the coronavirus pandemic, Mr Trump also said his administration holds “China fully responsible for concealing the virus and unleashing it upon the world”.
